Bridging the Gap: A Student's Journey Through Junior College Bridging at BBS PIK

  • BBS PIK
  • The Junior College Bridging (JCB) Class at Bina Bangsa School Pantai Indah Kapuk (BBS PIK) helps students move from the Indonesian national curriculum to the Cambridge International curriculum before they start Junior College. Moving into a Cambridge programme means new subjects, a more demanding syllabus and a different style of English. JCB gives students the time and support to adjust to all three.

We spoke with recent JCB students about the move, the classroom experience and what the programme made possible.

Why do students choose Junior College Bridging?

For students, the decision came down to one thing: making the transition well. Students explained that the programme made it possible to adapt from the national curriculum to the Cambridge curriculum, and this was one of the key reasons for joining the Junior College Bridging Class. Rather than stepping straight into a new system, JCB gave students time to adjust before Junior College began.

How does JCB help students with the Cambridge syllabus?

The Cambridge syllabus asks more of students, and JCB is designed to close that gap step by step. According to students, the lessons became much easier to understand, especially when it came to the more demanding parts of the syllabus. With focused support in a bridging setting, challenging topics became manageable instead of overwhelming.

What do students learn in the JCB programme?

JCB built a stronger foundation across core academic subjects, from mathematics to the sciences. Students gained a much deeper understanding of academic subjects such as mathematics, biology and chemistry. The programme also introduced a different approach to English through the IGCSE syllabus, with a stronger focus on essay writing and narratives. That shift in English matters. Cambridge assessments reward clear, structured writing, and JCB gives students early practice in the essay and narrative skills they will rely on in Junior College.

Do students recommend Junior College Bridging?

Yes. Students would recommend JCB to other students, describing it as a valuable opportunity to connect with the Cambridge syllabus and a great programme offered by BBS PIK.
