The world of sports is a multi-billion dollar industry capable of making its best athletes global superstars and multi-millionaires. However, as the Coronavirus made its journey across the globe, leaving millions dead in its wake and slaughtering livelihoods, even the incredibly lucrative world of sports fell victim to it. The current global pandemic, caused by the spread of the Corona virus, has disrupted the sports industry and halted its advancement. This essay will discuss the financial and longterm developmental effects of the pandemic on the world of sports.

The global pandemic has caused the cancellation of many international sports competitions. These glittering shows of athleticism are crucial in launching the careers of promising athletes, and serve as aplatform to present their athletic capabilities on a global stage. Without such competitions, the advancements of sports are stunted. In the realm of Ladies Figure Skating, quadruple jumps that require the body to rotate four times in the air are almost unheard of. It was deemed impossible for the female body to achieve until one was successfully landed during the 2019 World Figure Skating Championships. Avid fans awaited with bated breath at the edge of their seats for the 2020 World Championships to take place, where multiple quadruple jumps would be attempted. Set to take place in March of 2020, it unfortunately fell victim to the global pandemic that swooped across the globe. It was cancelled mere days before it was scheduled to take place, and the anticipation of figure skating fans to see further development in their sport was extended indefinetely.

The world of athletics is a demanding one, physically, emotionally and financially. Many athletes rely on sponsorships to fund their endeavours. However, with the recent pandemic dusrupting the global economy and affecting many companies' finances, many potential and previous sponsors may be hesitant to invest in sports. Taking into consideration a tighter budget and the lack of widely viewed international competitions that serve as an advertisement platform for these sponsors, the world of sports is no longer anenticing sector to invest in. Without the financial means necessary to continue their long and arduous sports journey, many athletes may choose to leave their sporting endeavours behind, further stunting the development of sports by limiting the future talent pool of competitors.

In conclusion, the recent pandemic has disrupted the world of sports in many ways, most notably financially, which hinders the athletes' abilities to push themselves to do greater feats of athleticism and pushes potential athletes away from the world of sports. This causes irreparable damage to the world of sports.
