BBS Bandung: The Host of BBS MUN 2023
Bina Bangsa School Bandung, this year's BBS Centre for Language and Arts, will host the 4th BBS Model United Nations scheduled on 24-25 February 2023 and it will be done onsite.
BBS held its very first MUN in A.Y. 2018-2019 which was also hosted by BBS Bandung. It was attended by the Former British Ambassador to Indonesia, His Excellency Moazzam Malik. It was followed by those hosted by the BBS Kebon Jeruk and the Pantai Indah Kapuk campuses. These MUNs have given BBS students from across the six BBS campuses various academic opportunities, while developing their linguistic and social skills.
Model United Nations (MUN) is an academic simulation of the United Nations where students play the role of delegates from different countries and attempt to solve real world issues with the policies and perspectives of their assigned countries/roles. Through the process, the participants learn about diplomacy, international relations, and the United Nations.
True to its core, the English Language, Literature, and Humanities Department of Bina Bangsa School develops and promotes programmes that cultivate the practical communication skills used in the different domains in life - school, home, university or workplace, immediate community, and global context. Hence, students need to learn the principles of communication skills and the unique challenges as a speaker and listener. Moreover, students will learn about the effective use of thought processing, body language, and voice in both informative and persuasive speaking.
Furthermore, this BBS MUN, a student-led activity, aims to develop students to be effective communicators, critical thinkers, and self-directed learners who display both national and global efficacies; and to nurture informed learners who are highly proficient in the English language and who strive towards academic excellence.
The BBS MUN hosted by BBS Kebon Jeruk campus in 2020 was attended by respectable government officials: Prof. Shahbaz Khan, the UNESCO Representative and Director of the Regional Science Bureau for Asia and the Pacific; by Enrique Rodrigo Gallego, US Department of State Deputy Political Counselor of State US Embassy (Jakarta) and by the representatives from the UN High Community for Refugees (Jakarta) and from the UN Children Fund (Jakarta). The one hosted by BBS Pantai Indah Kapuk in 2021, the Blueprint MUN (which was done online), was attended by Mr. Lusman Yunarto, the Development Director of Happy Hearts Indonesia.
For the BBS MUN 2023, each of the 6 campuses will be assigned to a specific Council/ Committee handled by the chosen student chairpersons who will be guided by the Teachers-In-Charge/ Advisors for the MUN activities per campus. Term 2 is the target preparation period for the said programme. BBS Bandung hopes to engage more students in the actual process of learning.
