Cambridge Curriculum: How Does it Work

Like many other top international schools in the world, BBS employs the Cambridge curriculum for Primary School, Secondary School, and Junior College. So what is the Cambridge curriculum, and why is it so popular worldwide? Furthermore, why should you consider it for your child?

What is Cambridge?

Formally known as the Cambridge Assessment International Education, the Cambridge board was founded in 1858 and is a part of the world-renowned University of Cambridge in the UK.

Today, the Cambridge curriculum has been the global gold standard for international education. Other than the International Baccalaureate (IB), the Cambridge curriculum is the programme of choice for the admissions offices of top universities in the world.

What sets the Cambridge curriculum apart from other programmes?

The Cambridge curriculum's rigorous and college-like approach to primary and secondary education is known for employing a more global and comprehensive concept, encouraging students to think critically and become global citizens who are active problem-solvers. These are all the qualities that will prepare students for life beyond school in a college or career setting.

Through the Cambridge curriculum's holistic approach to learning, students are encouraged to discover new abilities, develop skills that will benefit them in the future, and explore their passions and interests.

Students could utilise the curriculum's flexibility and dynamic range of subjects and balance their subject selection between their future goals and interests. This will make learning an enjoyable experience for the students, allowing them to develop a passion for learning.

Cambridge in BBS

BBS has been an authorised Cambridge International Examinations (CIE) centre since it was first founded in 2001, making it one of the country's most experienced Cambridge education providers. Throughout the two decades of providing Cambridge education, some BBS students have been honoured to receive the Outstanding Learners Awards from Cambridge for their academic performance. For over two decades, BBS has been the school of choice for parents seeking an internationally recognised school in Indonesia that aligns with the Singaporean education system.

For Primary School, which consists of P1 to P6 (G1-G6), BBS uses the Cambridge Primary curriculum, where students at this level will develop a solid educational foundation. With a choice of ten subjects, young learners will learn the core subjects and explore their forms of creativity and learn how to express themselves.

For Secondary School, which consists of Sec 1 to Sec 4 (Grade 7 - 10), BBS uses the Cambridge IGCSE curriculum, where students attempt the IGCSE examinations during Sec 4. With a wide array of subjects to choose from, students can further explore their interests and subjects that they like, whether it be science, mathematics, or arts.

For Junior College, which consists of JC1 and JC2 (Grade 11 & 12), students will attempt the Cambridge GCE A-Level examinations at the end of the two-year program. The Junior College program is designed to prepare students to advance into college education. Our curriculum allows students to hone in on subjects relevant to their future major in higher learning institutions.
