Primary Master Spellers Challenge
By Cairo, Primary 6
The activity is being organised as one of the events in Bina Bangsa School Bandung's celebration of English Week. The main aim of the event is to further unite the different campuses of Bina Bangsa and their students through a fun but challenging activity.
It is a spelling competition wherein participants are asked to spell words in front of an audience until such time when those who make spelling errors are eliminated and the only ones left are the 'master spellers'. '''''
This was an interesting event and I am privileged to have taken part in it with other Balikpapan students' contestants on Tuesday, 27th of September 2022. The BBS Master Spellers' Challenge has three (3) categories:
''''''''' *Greenhorn Spellers: Primary 1 and 2 (Dhahran and Orlando)
''''''''' *Skilled Spellers: Primary 3 and 4 (Michelle Lee and Sophia)
''''''''' *Seasoned Spellers: Primary 5 and 6 (Joanne and I)
'It was very intense during the event as some of my peers started to cry. I also felt very nervous at first when the speaker started glitching, making our first contestant eliminated. Moreover, it made me worried as the lower primary knew how to spell words I had never heard of. I was impressed as the other contestants were astounding at spelling.'
While some of the spelling words were unique and confusing, which made me and my peers feel very anxious, the support from our schoolmates who were watching and cheering us in the MPH gave us hope. The other campuses were also helpful, even though they were cheering for their own campuses. It felt like they were also cheering for us.
Although we did not win, it was a fun time and an experience indeed! We were able to learn new words to spell and, most of all, we had the chance to compete with other students from different campuses and get to know students from different classes.
