Building Life Skills Through Cooking: How BBS PIK Empowers Students to Learn Life
Life isn’t just about hustling without taking care of our health. To stay productive, we must prioritize our well-being. With advancements in technology, children today often spend more time in front of screens than developing essential life skills. While excelling in technology is important, maintaining a balance with practical life skills is equally crucial.
These skills need to be nurtured from early childhood so that children grow up with confidence, self-awareness, and a solid understanding of healthy living. One such skill is cooking, which offers numerous benefits. It not only builds self-confidence and independence but also teaches the value of eating healthy meals rather than relying on processed food.
At Bina Bangsa School PIK (BBS PIK), we emphasize these life skills through our Life Skills Studio for secondary students. In this studio, students learn to cook together, fostering teamwork while mastering practical tasks such as cutting, measuring, and managing time. This hands-on experience engages all their senses, encouraging them to create healthy, delicious meals.
Our students don’t just cook simple dishes like fried rice (though we all know it’s an Indonesian favorite!). They also learn to prepare nutritious meals, such as salmon dishes, from scratch, following step-by-step instructions. While cooking may seem simple, precision matters—one mistake can completely alter the taste of a dish. Through this process, students sharpen their senses and develop better communication skills by collaborating with friends and following instructions.
Teachers are always there to guide and assist students if they encounter challenges. Parents can rest assured about safety, as our Life Skills Studio is equipped with a well-designed, standard-compliant kitchen.
