What do we learn from education of asia

In the past few decades, countries in Asia like South Korea, China, and Singapore have climbed over the ranks of the best education system in the world. This recent achievement puts them on the world map of international education. At Bina Bangsa School (BBS), we are constantly keeping ourselves up to date with the latest trends in global education to provide the best learning experience for our students.

So, let's examine what exactly sets these three Asian countries apart from the rest.

South Korea

Already a leader in science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM), South Korea has proved to possess the best education framework in the world in recent years. By constantly ranking in the top percentile of international comparative tests of accomplishments, such as tests of basic reasoning and analysis, the South Koreans have designed an education system that could effectively aid students in achieving academic excellence.

The South Korean education system is looking to develop even further from its strong foundation in STEM by implementing a STEAM program in elementary and middle schools, adding arts into the pre-existing STEM programs.

China

In 2020, China introduced an education reform plan that aims to implement a new approach to education that focuses more on the students, moving away from its historically known emphasis on learning by memorisation.

The Chinese education system has long been famous for its emphasis on memorisation and theory-based approach to learning, prioritising diligent note-taking and knowledge retention skills over practical applications of the material. With the new reform plan, however, educators are looking into incorporating the latter into the national education framework.

For example, in science, students will receive training to partake in experiments that are relevant to the real world, such as experiments on new energy.

Singapore

A critical element of the Singaporean education system is the attitude to understand what is needed from the next generation as they mature in a constantly changing world.

In line with this mentality, the Singaporean way of learning also emphasises the value of empowering students to develop their own social and cultural personalities and critical thinking skills to become valuable problem solvers in society.

Now, how does this translate into the learning experience in BBS?

By adopting a Cambridge curriculum, similar to the curriculum used in Singapore, BBS hope to provide a learning experience that enriches students with the skills necessary to become competitive in a future workforce. In addition to a gateway into a global career through an internationally recognised certification achieved through Cambridge.

Moreover, BBS also maintains a solid cultural agreement with China, as shown by our extensive Chinese co-curricular activities (CCAs) like our prestigious Chinese Orchestra program.

Most importantly, our extensive network of Chinese schools with whom we share student exchange agreements means that we provide our students with the best opportunities at experiencing high-quality education, both locally and abroad.
